JOSEPH G. JUCKAS DATE OF DEATH: 11/05/17 Harness racing lost one of its great storytellers with the death of Joe Juckas on November 5, 2017 at Afton Fairgrounds in Upstate NY. For 50 plus years, Joe raced his own horses across the country. From Monticello to Rockingham, from Scarborough to Wheeling, from Harrington to Green Mountain, from St. Louis to Pocono Downs and NY Country Fairs, Joe was a recognized figure. If you ran into him, he always had a smile and warm hello. He may not remember your name but was genuinely happy to see you. And the stories he would tell! With so many years to draw from, Joe always had an entertaining - though lengthy - story about racing in days gone by. Whether it be from his early days stabled at Goshen, watching Mr. Baldwin train the Arden Hill horses or his fun-filled days when racing at the County Fairs throughout NY State, you could be sure of a colorful tale – and they were all true! Joe loved racing horses, but more than that, he loved the horse! Joe died doing what he loved best – sitting behind a trotter.
