Bonnie MacPherson, age 83, of Afton, New York, passed away on Wed. March 25, 2026.
She was born on January 27 in Afton, New York, to Tracy and Joyce Doolittle; also cherished by her step-mother Florence Mitchell. Bonnie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who cherished her family above all else.
Bonnie is survived by her two daughters, Tracey (Calvin) Tallmadge and Cynthia (Paul) Hervochon. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren, Anthony (Holly) Olshefski, Kyle Velten, Logan (Chris) LaBar, and Hailey (Jay) Christian, as well as several great-grandchildren who brought her great joy. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Bill Mertz and Reggie MacPherson.
Bonnie worked numerous jobs throughout her life within the Afton community, including Amphenol, K-Mart, the Afton Pharmacy, Afton Central School and as the Afton Village Clerk. She was especially known for her talent in sewing, creating and selling Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls, American Girl Doll clothes, and many other handmade items that were treasured by those who received them. She was actively involved in planning and vending at local craft shows, where she enjoyed sharing her creativity with others.
Bonnie loved her pets dearly and found great joy in their companionship. She was also well known for her humor and quick wit, bringing laughter and light to those around her. She never met a stranger she couldn’t strike up a conversation with. In her free time, she enjoyed doing word search puzzles and was an avid fan of wrestling and NASCAR.
Bonnie will be remembered for her love of family, her creativity, her sense of humor, and the warmth she shared with those around her. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Private graveside services will be observed. A celebration of life will be held at a later time. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to your local SPCA.
