Charles T. Gaynor II
Of Afton
Charles T. Gaynor II, a dedicated engineer and beloved family man, passed away peacefully at his home in Afton, NY on August 28, 2024, at the age of 74.
Born on June 23, 1950, Charlie was a graduate of Chenango Forks High School, Class of 1968. He was a 1972 Geology Graduate from SUNY Oneonta and later earned his Masters Degree from UC Berkeley. Throughout his career, he made significant contributions to the field of engineering, founding and/or leading several successful ventures including Gaynor Associates Inc., Gaynor Engineering, and Hawk Engineering.
In retirement, Charlie could be found either on the golf course, on the lake fishing, or puttering around in his workshop.
Charles was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Edna (Davis) Gaynor, his sister-in-law Susan Gaynor, and brothers-in-law Charles Vought, Robert Vought, and Robert Frederick.
He is survived by his loving wife Michelle; sisters, Nancy (Richard) Van Aken and Cyndi (Jim) Marshall; brother, Michael Gaynor; sisters-in-law, Laura Frederick and Debbie Vought; and brothers-in law, Wilton Vought (Sarah MacMillen), Joseph (Becky) Vought and John (Lisa) Vought. He also leaves behind his son, Patrick (Jennifer) Gaynor; his daughter Anne Gaynor (Brian DeChico); and step-daughter Dannielle (Carl) Yager. He was a proud grandfather to Brooks, Maggie, Amanda and Kara; and great-grandfather to Carter, Carmine, Kyleigh and Kaysen, all of whom will carry on his legacy.
Charlie will be remembered for his sharp mind, his dedication to his work, and the deep love he had for his family. His impact on both his profession and those who knew him will not be forgotten.
Per Charlie's wishes there will be no funeral services. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sun. Sept. 22, 2024 at 1 p.m. at Greenside Restaurant at Chenango Valley State Park Golf Course.
