It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Edgar Arthur Spencer from Coventry, New York, who passed peacefully in his home on Sunday September 14th, 2025 at the age of 78. Ed was born on December 18, 1946, in Binghamton, New York. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and provider.

Ed was a graduate of Binghamton North High School and then went on to complete his degree in Dairy Management at SUNY DELHI. Ed served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War, where he worked as an electronics technician.  He worked at the Sheffield Corporation as a manager throughout the 1970s and 1980s;  Ed then went on to retire from Norwich City Schools as Superintendent of Building and Grounds. 

Farming was a large part of Ed’s entire life.  He raised every kind or animal including sheep, cows, horses, pigs and chickens. Ed was quite skilled with his hands. There was not a piece of machinery invented that Ed could not fix. His talent was not limited to machinery, he was intimately familiar with all stages of construction, and even built the addition to his own home from the ground up. 

Ed and his daughter Amy loved horses immensely.  They competed in obstacle course competitions and carriage show driving for many years and won many awards. In addition to his equestrian pursuits, Ed enjoyed sports and travel. Ed and his family were longtime passionate Buffalo Bills fans.  Together the family enjoyed numerous trips to Ireland where they shared many fond memories.

He is survived by his loving former wife and lifelong companion, Susan Nerz; his son & daughter-in-law, Daniel & Kristy Spencer, Bloomsbury, NJ, daughter & son-in-law, Amy & Robert Sharry, Milford, NJ and his two grandchildren, Hannah and Daniel. He was preceded in death by his parents Shirley and Edgar “Art” Spencer, his sister Nancy Snyder, his brother Dick Spencer and his son Joel.

Please join us for a celebration of Ed’s life at the family home in Coventry, New York on Sunday November 9, 2025, at 11:00 AM. We will always carry in our hearts the memory of Ed and his legacy of caring for all creatures great and small.
