John Marshall Davis Hirst

Of Port Crane

John Marshall Davis Hirst, 78, of Port Crane, NY went to God on Friday February 5, 2021.  Beloved husband of Nancy of 52-years. Loving father of Bradley (Frances) Hirst, Brenda (James) VanAbs and Suzanne (Dennis) Gates. Cherished grandfather of Kurtis, Kira, Stephanie, Alee, Alexis, Alex, Sabrina, Philip and Bradley. Great-grandfather of Arianna, Harper, Hanna and Wesson. Dear brother of Frances (Robert) Lay and the late Phyliss Zoeller.  Predeceased by parents Leonard and Esther Hirst. He will be missed by his large and extended family.  John was born July 20, 1942 in Flushing, NY, growing up in Jackson Heights, Queens before moving to Port Crane and graduating from Harpursville High School. Quick with a joke and armed with an infectious smile, John enjoyed spending time with his family and traveling around the world.  He began his career in radio and TV, working at WEBO Radio in Owego, NY, WCSS Radio in Amsterdam, NY and WTEN TV in Albany, NY before retiring from At-A-Glance in Sidney, NY.  He was a military veteran, serving as a member of the U.S. Army Reserves.  He was a member of the North Fenton United Methodist Church and served in many leadership positions.

 Private Funeral  Services will be held at Osterhoudt-Madden Funeral Home 69-71 Maple Street Harpursville, at the convenience of the family. Pastor Michele Clark will officiate.  Burial will be in Maine Cemetery in the spring.  In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s memory may be made to the North Fenton United Methodist Church or the Fisher Center for Alzheimer's Research Foundation (www.alzfdn.org).  Online condolences may be made at:   www.omaddenfh.com.
