Julia Leora (Richards) Stone, 102 of Ouaquaga passed away on Mon. April 11, 2022. She was the daughter of Harry & Lena Richards. She was predeceased by her husband, Harry, 2 sons, James & Paul and grandchildren, Justin Stone & Jasmine Hromada, sisters, Josephine Richards, Margaret Bell, Clara Storer, Irene Santa Lucia, Eunice Richards, brothers, Robert Richards and Elbert Richards.
Julia was born in Ouaquaga and moved with her family to Windsor when she was 3 years old. At Windsor High School, Julia was a good student and active in Glee Club, the Literary Club, Latin & French Club & yearbook staff. She graduated in 1937. In 1939, Julia married Harry A. Stone in Montrose, PA. For a short period of time, they lived in Tampa, FL and farmed the family farm on Stone-Baker Rd. in North Windsor. They settled in the Ouaquaga house in Ouaquaga by the bridge for several years, raising their 5 children.
Julia was active in the Ouaquaga United Methodist Church. She taught Sunday School, but will be remembered most for her beautiful soprano voice. Her deep faith in God brought her through many hardships including the loss of her son Paul in 2015 and Jim in in 2017.
In her younger years, Julia was a talented gardener. She loved sunsets, trees, lakes, fishing and camping. She was an artist, a poet and played the piano. At 102 she was still singing hymns and old fashion songs, remembering “most” of the words. The hymn she has recently been singing was “Just a Closer Walk with Thee.
She is survived by her 2 daughters & son-in-law, Julie Cordner, Sidney Center, Linda & James Knapp, Nineveh, son, John Stone, Nineveh, 11 grandchildren, many many great grandchildren and many many great great grandchildren.
Graveside Service will be held on Friday April 22, 2022 at 1 p.m. in Knox Cemetery, Ouaquaga. Pastor Sue Crawson-Brizzolara will officiate.
