Larry Zimmer
Of Port Crane
Larry Zimmer of Port Crane, NY passed on December 30, 2020 at the age of 61. He is predeceased by his father and mother, Charles and Theda Zimmer. He is survived by his children Timothy, Matthew, and Shelby. His siblings Charles & (Sharon), Christine & (Dale), Lisa & (Dave), and Steven & (Laurie), as well as his grandson Lawson he loved so dearly.
Larry was an avid racing enthusiast. On weekends you could find him down at the local racetrack helping out in the pit with his buddies or cheering on his favorites from the stands. He’d love to say, “lets go get some dirt.” He especially loved stock cars. Larry was also big into football. He was a diehard Minnesota Vikings fan. If he wasn’t watching NASCAR, he was getting ready for Sunday night football. Standing by his team regardless if they’ve won a superbowl or not. His words, not ours.
Football was something he loved to discuss with his family, especially with his son Timothy and brother Chuck. There are so many memories that revolve around his love for the game. When he was younger he’d play football with his siblings and friends in the neighborhood. His passion for sports got him into some trouble though when he broke his leg and needed a metal plate. A memory he told often because that was a time when he was healthier and stronger.
To his children he was a beloved father. Always there for them no matter the circumstances. You really couldn’t have asked for a better Dad. He’d give the shirt off his back to help them. He was very loving and supportive. He was the person you wanted to call for advice or to have a good laugh. He was the biggest jokester. He really knew how to make someone smile.
His proudest moment was when he became a grandpa. He was so excited to hold his grandson the day he was born. He loved sharing photos and updates regarding his grandson almost daily. He was a doting Pop Pop and beloved by all. Larry was truly one of a kind who had a beautiful soul to all who knew him. His passing is certainly a great loss and he will be missed greatly.
“Only the good die young,” - Love you forever Dad.
