LeWayne Harold Colwell, a beloved father of 4, grandfather of 15 and great-grandfather of 13 and one on the way, went home to be with his beloved Lord and Savior on April 10, 2025 at the age of 75. Born to Clifton and Nina Colwell, in Binghamton, NY on August 17, 1949, he was devoted to the Lord, his family and the many organizations with which he partnered. He was a great source of encouragement, wisdom, and a Godly example to his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Early Life & Career: In the 1969, he went into partnership with his father in Colwell Brothers Construction. When his father was killed in an automobile accident in 1972, he and his brother Roger, continued the construction business where he devoted 55+ years. He loved the challenges construction offered. His greatest joys came when he was in the excavator digging a cellar, putting up a pole barn, tearing down an old building, or moving mountains of topsoil or gravel at the gravel pit.
Family Life: In early spring, 1970, he met Susan and they very quickly fell in love and after only two weeks of knowing each other, started talking about marriage. They married in November of 1970 and he remained faithful to her for 49.5 years when the Lord called her home. Together as they raised their 4 children, they served the Lord at Windsor Bible Baptist Church in many capacities; some of which include church custodian, Deacon Board member, and AWANA Commanders for many years. They loved to serve the Lord together.
Personality: LeWayne loved his family, church, community and country and often gave of his time to serve others. Whether it was building a trailer for a missionary, helping to build a barn for a farmer whose farm was hit by a tornado, helping make decisions on the town board, Camp Board, Ministry Boards, he helped where needed. He hated to sit still and continued to run the excavator up until three weeks before his death.
