Ret. Director of Emergency Services/Fire Coordinator for Broome County, Michael F. Aswad, 71 of Hillcrest passed away Wed. Oct. 20, 2021 at his home. He was predeceased by his parents, Charles E. & Mary Aswad and his in-laws, Henry & Florence Knapp, brother-in-law Al Smith and nephew Christopher Johns.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Sharon, daughter & son-in-law, Darcy & Christopher Johnson, Iowa, his grandchildren, Connor & Lily, his siblings, Lu-Anne & Brian Kellett, Wilmington, NC, Mark Aswad, Locke, NY, Bonnie & Jim Norton, Greene, Theresa Smith, Wilmington, NC, Thomas & Brenda Aswad, Red Creek and also several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and: ”His Camping Family” along with his family and many friends throughout the First Responder Community.
He was a member of the NYS Assoc. of Fire Chiefs and NYS Fire Coordinators Assoc., member of Hillcrest, Chenango and Port Dickinson Fire Depts., and was a former volunteer with Broome Ambulance.
A Memorial Mass will be offered on Sat. Nov. 6, 2021 at 11 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church 1031 Chenango Street Hillcrest. The family will receive friends at St. Francis of Assisi Church on Sat.
