Robert E. “Jake” Dohnken
Of Harpursville
Robert Edward Dohnken, better known to friends and family as “Jake”, 81 of Harpursville died peacefully at home, January 30, 2024, after many years with COPD and emphysema. He was born October 16, 1942 to Crawford Oliver and Alice (Burns) Dohnken, who preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Deanna (Carrington) Dohnken, 2 children, Ronald Dohnken, Port Crane, Wendy & Dr. Allan Zahn, Guntersville, AL, 2 grandchildren, Tiffany & Zachary Zahn, and also other family members.
Jake spent 29 years with NYSEG, before moving onto Harpursville Central Schools. He was always willing to help teachers and staff with projects. Jake’s passion and love was as a lifetime farmer. He loved the land he grew up on, spending his life taking care of it. Jake didn’t stray very far from the farm, but when he did, it was to Alabama to spend time with his daughter, son-in-law, and his 2 grandchildren. He enjoyed immersing himself in their lives, whether at the ball field, holding batting practice for Zach and friends, going to the dance studio to see Tiffany, boating on Lake Guntersville, and riding along with Wendy to see patients. No matter what the day held, Jake was always up for the adventure!
