Ronald Kelly Obituary

Ronald Eugene Kelly, 89, of Harpursville, NY, originally of Susquehanna, PA, born May 13, 1935, went peacefully into the arms of the Lord while surrounded by family on Sat May 18, 2024.

He was predeceased by his parents, Eugene and Doris (Skinner) Kelly, son Michael Kelly, brothers, Tom Kelly and Father William Kelly, sister Mary Pat Philhower, Aunt Mary Kelly (Sister Thaddeuss), Uncle Eddie Skinner, nephew Nicholas Philhower, friend Phillip Harding and his Basset Hound Maggie.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Lou Kelly, daughter Colleen (James) Bulger, son Patrick (Sheri) Kelly, his granddaughters Morgan and Tiffany (Jesse) Bulger, his cherished lifelong best friend George Martin, good friend Keith Hogancamp, and many nieces and nephews.

He graduated from Laurel Hill Academy in 1953 as Vice President of his class. He served as an altar boy for many years in church.

Before graduating high school, at age 16, he began his railroad career in 1951 with the Erie Railroad. He then transferred with his friend George to Coplay, PA to continue their railroad careers until his retirement in 1995. He loved his railroad days and always shared many fond memories over the years from his time on it.

He was very proud of his Irish heritage and the strong Catholic faith that he was raised on and lived his life by. He would lend a hand to anyone in need.

Some of his greatest joys in life were spending quality time with his family and friends. He spent many of the winter months in warm Largo, FL. He had a lifelong love of fishing and working with horses. He enjoyed watching NASCAR and college basketball. He loved summers the most when he was able to help in the hayfields, cut wood and mow the lawns. He had a love for all animals. The simple pleasures in life were what made him happiest.

He will be deeply missed as his absence leaves a large hole in the people he left behind. He loved his family very much and made sure that was known up until the very end.

Ron and his family are especially grateful to the staff of Lourdes at Home for the support over the last 6 months providing amazing care so that he was able to be happy in his home. They would also like to thank the team at BGH Palliative Care Unit for the wonderful care he received at the end of his life.

Private graveside services will be held in St. John’s Cemetery, Susquehanna, PA, on Sat, June 15th.

Ron’s family welcomes everyone who knew and loved him to join them afterwards in a celebration of his honor on Sat, June 15th at 12:00 PM at Saint John Church Hall (Holy Trinity), 15 East Church St, Susquehanna, PA.
