Daniel E. Northrop, Sr. 80 of Port Crane passed away on Friday June 3, 2016 at Mercy House. He was the son of the late George & Dorothy (Constable) Northrop. His wife, Gail (Noyes) Northrop predeceased him in 2010 and a brother, Charles Noyes. Surviving are his children, Joseph (Lan), Muscatine, Iowa, Daniel Jr. (Donna), Harpursville, Roderick (Sharon), Weyer’s Cave, VA., Donna (Victor) Gurney, Lyons, Kansas, Kenneth (Tonia) Harpursville. He is further survived by 16 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren. His extended family includes in laws, Fran (Sharon) Noyes, Olin (Sherrie) Schermerhorn, Betti (Donnie) Niles, Larry (Arlene) Noyes, Ida (John) Knapp, all of Harpursville, Fletcher (Rosemary) Noyes, Jean (Cosmo) Maggio, all of Port Crane, along with several cousins, nieces, nephews and special daughters-in-laws, Cheryl Stoud, NC, and Sharon Northrop, Nineveh, along with his special friend, Mary Hendrickson. Dan served in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He served his community as a life member and Past Commander of American legion Post 1596, a little league coach, men’s and women’s softball coach and a member of the Fireman’s Auxiliary and VFW in Surf City, NC. He and his wife, Gail owned and operated Northrop’s Restaurant in Harpursville. In 2009, he and his wife were honored as Colesville Rotary Club’s Citizens of the Year.
Funeral Services will be held at the Osterhoudt-Madden Funeral Home 69-71 Maple Street Harpursville on Tues. at 11 a.m. Rev. William Fowler will officiate. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Harpursville with military honors. The family will receive friends at the Osterhoudt-Madden Funeral Home on Mon. from 4 to 7 p.m. Memorial contributions in memory of Dan may be made to Mercy House 212 N.
